Makapuu Island
The
Makapuu Point State Wayside or the Makapuu
Beach Park is a very popular destination for
family vacations and getaways on Oahu in
Hawaii. It is located close to the
delightful Sea Life Park, and it is home to
some of the island’s most famous landmarks
including the Makapuu beach, the shore
trail, the lighthouse and the Manana.
The Manana, also called Rabbit Island, is
located around the Makapuu Beach Park.
The Makapuu Lighthouse is one of Hawaii’s
most famed and distinguishing tourist
attractions. It gives a breathtaking view of
Oahu’s beautiful Windward side. Located on
the southern shore of Oahu, between the Sea
Life Park and the Sandy Beach is the
renowned Makapuu Lighthouse trail. On top of
the trail are two lookout platforms.
Visitors who want to get a good view of
Rabbit Island, the Makapuu Beach and
Windward Oahu should get up onto the
platforms.
The Makapuu beach is a well-known venue for
bodysurfing. Waves can reach heights of over
twelve feet, and it also has the best shore
break in Hawaii. Makapuu beach has tough
currents and rough waters, so only
experienced body surfers are encouraged to
bodysurf in the beach. Classis surfboards
