Lanikai Beach, also called
Heavenly Sea
The
Lanikai Beach, also known as the “heavenly
sea”, is very popular for its lush tropical
atmosphere and for its extraordinarily blue
and crystal clear waters. It has a beautiful
pair of offshore islands called the
Mokuluas. The twin islands can only be
accessed through public access walkways.
The beach is untouched western development.
It has no facilities, no lifeguard, and
there is no fresh water. The sandy beach has
large rocks and a lot of shady areas.
Lanikai is the perfect getaway for tourists
who want their privacy and who are willing
to expose themselves to the elements and let
go of modern conveniences. The offshore reef
protects the beach from violent waves, and
makes for an ideal swimming environment.
However, the area teems with deadly
Portuguese man-of-war and dangerous stinging
limu from June to September. Swimmers are
advised to closely monitor ocean conditions
and follow the warning signs and notices on
the beach.
Apart from being one of the best swimming
beaches in Hawaii, Lanikai is also a
photographer’s paradise. It has clear blue
and sparkling turquoise waters, a wide
lovely beach and majestic coconut palms.
Other activities on Lanikai are outrigger
canoeing, kayaking, surfing, windsurfing,
and sailing.
