Ala Moana Beach Park in
Oahu
The
Ala Moana Beach Park is a beautiful public
park in Oahu, Hawaii. It lies between
downtown Honolulu and Waikiki. The 100-acre
park boasts of a half-mile long man-made
gold-sand beach. The beach was created by
the Dillingham Dredging Company owner who
was looking for a place for dredged land.
Back in the 1950s, the sand was brought to
the park to create the beach.
The water is often calm and peaceful because
of the outer reef protecting the beach. This
makes it a safe and ideal place for children
and long-distance swimmers. Dredge out of
the reef is a boat channel and a 25-feet
deep swimming channel. Swimmers are
cautioned about the bottom of the Ala
Moana’s ocean, which drops very suddenly.
The beach park has a lot of grassy areas
under the shade of palm tress and banyans
that make the venue the perfect place for
picnics, barbecues, and outdoor games. The
Ala Moana Beach Park has showers, tennis
courts, food concessions, a music pavilion,
picnic tables and phones for the use and
enjoyment of its visitors.
The Ala Moana Beach Park is popular among
Honolulu residents especially during
weekends when they bring their families to
the park to swim, relax and spend time
outdoors together.
